Cherasco is first and foremost a city of history - linked to the Savoy dynasty, to the Thirty Years War, to Napoleon and much more - the tourist who walks through the perpendicular streets of the beautiful historic center will not miss the ancient palaces, the eighteenth-century buildings, the baroque churches, the bell towers, and the two arches.
The advice for those mostly interested in monuments is to visit, after the arch of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Baroque Sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of the People and the small shrine of Our Lady of Grace. Another religious building of great value, as ancient as the city itself, is the Church of San Pietro, with its Romanesque facade.
Then, in the historical-artistic itinerary you cannot miss a stop at Museo Giovanni Battista Adriani - a museum of local history that preserves a valuable numismatic collection - which is located in the majestic Palazzo Gotti of Salerano, awesome in its rooms frescoed by Sebastiano Taricco.
Finally it is mandatory to visit the seventeenth-century Palazzo Salmatoris, now home to exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Here in 1631 the peace of Cherasco that ended the wars of Monferrato was signed, and in 1796 the negotiations that led to the Napoleonic Armistice of Cherasco took place in the very same palace.
